why is the chart displayed only when the chart area is clicked on?

We used the chart wizard to create a chart.  The chart area is greyed out and
the chart is displayed only when the chart area is clicked on.  We tried to
create the same chart using a new workbook and we don't have this problem.

Hi,

Use the menu Tools > Options. On the View tab in the Objects section
make sure Show All is selected rather than place holders.
