I need to put a small title in the legend explaining what the variables
represent in Excel XP. However, I cannot see a way of doing this without some
severe paintshop editing. And I've got 100s of figures to do this on.

Any useful suggestions would be most welcome.

Add a text box: click on chart, drag text box from Drawing tool on to chart;
add text to box; drag box to required position
Copy box to next chart
best wishes

Thanks, however I was wondering whether it is possible to edit the legend box
itself to add a title, rather than adding an additional text box onto the
chart. This would be neater and could possibly be saved as a user-defined
chart format.

I have tried to resize the legend in an attempt to insert the text box above
the first legend entry, however Excel distributes the entries evenly,
rendering this useless.

Hi,

The only way to add text to the legend would be via a dummy data series.
This series could then have it's fill and border colours set to none.

Cheers
