i have a spreadsheet that contains a bar graph based on 2 columns.  basically
the graph compares goals to actuals.  the challenge here lies in the desire
to add in the the data labels, which are based on the 4th column of data.
right now, i have text boxes showing these percentage values.  how can i do
this more effificiently and have the graph bar labels based on a column?

Hi,

Check the free addin on Rob's page, which helps you link data labels to
cell.

Rob Bovey has a very good add-in to provide this missing capability to
Excel:

There is also a data label utility as part of John Walkenbach's Chart
Tools add-in:

hi,

This add in seems really cool.  but what if the company policy prevents the
use of add ins?  is there a different type of graph that i could use? i am
just trying to get the prcentage of the goal versus actual to be used as the
data label. the percentage and goal is shown next to each other for each
reguinal center.

thanks in advance,
geebee

The addin just makes the linking of data labels to cells very easy.

But you can do it manually. This pages explains how to do it for the chart
title but the principle can be applied to individual data labels.
