How can I had text inside a bar chart without adding a text box and having to
move it around whenever the charts change?

Try this:

The example given is a scatter chart, but you can combine a scatter
series with a bar series with a bit of adjustment for the scales.

You can add data labels to a series of points, or a data label to a single
point.

Thanks for the response.  A better description might change the answer.  I
have vertical bars with labels at the top. That I need to keep the way it is.
What I'm hoping to do is to add text (vertically) so that it appears within
the bar itself.

Randy

You need two sets of labels. Add a line chart series with the original
column chart data, and apply labels to this series (position above the
points) and hide the series (no lines, no markers). Then use labels in the
center of the columns, and format appropriately.
