How do I draw a Security Market Line in Excel?
Jon Peltier - 04 May 2008 23:47 GMT
It's a straight line on a chart. Figure out the Y intercept (the risk free
rate of return) and the slope (market risk premium). Figure what the minimum
and maximum X values of your chart will be, and put them into two cells, say
E2 and E3. In the next two cells (F2 and F3) calculate Y values using

Y = Y-intercept + X * slope

Then copy these four cells, select the chart, then use Paste Special to add
this data as a new series, with series in columns and the category values in
the first column. If necessary, change this series to an XY type with a line
and no markers, and assign it to the primary axes.
