I am trying to create an x-axis with a major unit of 14
days that runs from 1/11 as the minimum to 12/31 as the
maximum.  Every time I enter this information in
the "Format Axis" box and click ok, the axis automatically
goes back to having a major unit of 7 days, with the
minimum as 1/11 and the maximum as 5/2.  When I go back
and open up the "Format Axis" box, it's as if I never
entered the information I wanted.  I have four small line
charts embedded on one page, so space is limited.  Maybe
that's the problem.  I have no idea and welcome any advice
you may have.

After you change the parameters, do you keep the Auto boxes unchecked?
Checking the boxes tells Excel to do whatever it wants with your axes.
