Excel keeps open workpages on start up

Can anyone help me? I'm going crazy. When I try to start
Excel 2000, the program starts opening workpages -
hundreds of them, until you "end task" to get it to stop.
Does anyone know what to do to fix this problem?

You have an entry un alternate startup location in tools>options...>general

Open excel in safe mode by going to Start>Run and type Excel.exe /safe

When you get Excel open, go to Tools>Options>General and clear the entry in
alternate satrtup folder.

Now close and re-open XL and all should be well
