Since converting my operating system from ME to XP Pro, I
cannot open my CD Rom's, originally written in Works, in
the Excel format.  Any suggestions?
Also, when I can locate a computer w/ Works, and try to
open my files to "safe as" an Excel file, a message
of "Read-Only" Files appears.  How can I open the files
and remove the "Read Only" feature?
thanks

I don't know why you can't read the files as the two operating systems
should make no difference.

The reason they are opened read only is because they are opened from a CD
which is technically read-only.  If you copy them from the disk onto your
hard drive and then highlight them all, right-click, select properties and
un-check the read only checkbox, all should be well.

You can, in any case, in Excel, select File>Save as with a read-only file
and save it under another name and/or location
