I have office xp pro, with sp1.  If I am entering a date into any date formatted cell by typing the date as 010604, excel will return a date other that jan 06,2004.  Any help here....

A 'format' in excel is not like a 'input mask' in Access.  By this I mean
you have to enter the slashes for excel to recognise it as a date.  If you
do this it will be automatically recognised.

The date you will get will be 11th January 1929.  This is because Excel sees
whole numbers as days (decimals as times of a day), since 1st January 1900
(Day 1)
