When I open excel and word the load time is very slow.
There is a message that says something to the effect
of "requesting virus scan".  After close to 1 minute the
program has loaded, but when opening a file the whole
routine begins again.  I received a message that says
the "pdfmaker5.0 macro for excel" caused the problem and
would I like to disable it.  I accepted the disable and
found that the program loads quickly, but the problem
still exists when opening a file.  I also get an error
message stating that the file I opened has caused a
serious error.  The error message in word states
that "add in c:\\program files\microsoft office\office10
\startup\pdfmaker.dot" is causing the error and allowed
me to disable this file.  That did not help.  I don't
know if this is a virus or not, but it does effect my
machine and our office manager's.  Nobody else seems
effected yet.  As a side note, I am running XP on a Dell
pentium 4 machine that I have had for several months and
have not had a problem like this until this morning.

Thanks for your help,
Brian

Try disabling NAV and see if it ceases.  A plug-in in a recent update
appears to be the issue
