How do I auto save in Excel 2003 and how do I recover
information if I closed out of the spreadsheet and did
not save it but I had the auto recover feature turned on?

Thank you

Excel won't save every file to it's autosave directory, not tested it, but
probably only the last one opened or similar.

You can enable/disable and set the destination folder in
Tools>Options...>Save
