using micrsoft excel,  I have a column filled with six digit numbers,I have
inadvertantly doubled up on these numbers two or three times, so now I have a
list of numbers four or five times as long as it should be running in to
about three thousand different numbers ,
question..... how can I remove the numbers that have been duplicated
and finish up with one of each number, tried everything.

Hope you can help,     regards   jim

Use filtering:

1. make sure the column has a babel cell on the top
2. select your column
3. Pull-down:

Data > Filter > Advanced filter... and check unique records only
