sum corruption but mostly scrolling madly

I cannot work inside the excel file - it somehow is on a sum mode where it
scrolls madly down the sheet higlighting everything but not doing anything.
Seems to be in a calculation mode - not letting me enter or key anything &
the only way i can get out is to shut down the application.
Help - this is a 5 MB sheet & i should have finished hours ago- this is my
last resort!

It's the wheel on your mouse, try bashing it a few times, if not re-install
the drivers for it

Sorry -- that might work sometimes but it is more serious that that - it is
giving me the corrupted beyond help message....
but i was able to salvage some data today...& copy into another sheet.
Thanks for the attempt -
i will keep that tip about bashing the mouse in mind for another time
