Critical Error Shut Down-xl2007-When Copying Sheets Btwn Workbooks

Noticed that when working with multiple open workbooks, if I copy a worksheet
from one workbook to my new workbook, then try to SAVE my new workbook,
BEFORE I close the workbook that I have copied from or moved a sheet from,
Excel freezes, issues critical error message, starts recovery procedures,
does not save my workbook as commanded.

This is a HUGE problem during my workday.  I copy many sheets from workbook
to workbook, and need many files open at the same time.

This used to occur also in Excel 2003, but seems to be a bigger problem in
2007.

We have updated the virtual memory size on the computer to allow it to
determine how much memory is needed.

We have upgraded the computer to 4 gigs of RAM.

The problem persists.

What is going on and how to I resolve this?

Our IT department also does not know how to keep excel from unexpected shut
downs and has been unable to remedy the problem by installing all the MS
updates for MS Office 2007.

HELP!

Most likely there is some corruption in your original workbook.  Does the
problem every happen from a nw workbook?  If not, that indicates corruption
is the issue.

Copying cell values and formulas instead of an worksheet may be a solution

Thanks.  I wish that were the case.  This occurs whether we are using an
Excel 2007 workbook or a 2003 lower version workbook.  This has happened
across all kinds of files and is consistently related to moving or copying
tabs between files.

The files are not corrupted before or after the shut down.  It also occurs
on files that have not yet been fully developed (brand new files).

We believe it is an application bug in Excel, not related to windows or
operating system and occurs in Excel 2003 as well.

I would really like to hear from other people that have also experienced
this.

Thanks.

Saving to a network (usually)  But happens if on desktop too...

It occurs when I copy a big sheet to another file, and try to save the
destination file before I close the source file.  It seems to have a conflict
if the source file is still open.  It has taken me some time to isolate the
pattern, but I can repeat it consistently now.

How about creating the new file, saving it, then copying the big sheet and
saving again.  Perhaps changing the order will make Excel happy.

You could always upgrade to Excel 2003.....

You do realize that I said in the beginning that I have to close the source
file before I save, and that I am in Excel 2007?  I also said in my prior
post that this occurs in 2003 as well.

I am not interested in making it happy.  I want it to perform as expected
using the provided functionality.

Hi,

Did this problem lead to corrupt of your excel file? If so, maybe you
can try a popular Excel file recovery tool called Advanced Excel
Repair to repair your Excel file. It is a powerful tool to repair
corrupt or damaged Excel files.

Detailed information about Advanced Excel Repair can be found at
http://www.datanumen.com/aer/

And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/aer.exe

Hope this helps.

Alan
