scanned part and entered part of contact list alpha in Excel 2002. Need to
sort by state which is separate column.  Keep getting error message: merged
cells must be same size.  Can't see any difference.  How to find out what
cells are different?  Or is there a different way to sort this list than
using the "Sort" function?

Thanks!

Somewhere in the data you have a merged cell.

Work on a copy of the data.  Select the data and use
Format->Cells->Alignment and uncehck the Merge Cells checkbox.  Then you'll
be able to  sort

Thanks, Duke.  Your advice worked like a charm.  Much obliged.
