How to fix a Excel corrupt object pasted into Word?

I try to make edits an Excel object pasted into Word, which was inserted
using the  Paste Special command  -- but I received a message "This object is
corrupt or is no longer available".

Why does this happen -- what can I do to repair?

Hi Hazel!  I have the exact same problem and I just poted a question.  If I
get a response that solves my problem, I will let you know.  If you get a
