I have put a read-only status on several files--so different branches can
look at but not change.  I think I should have just password-protected them
instead.  I'd like to remove read only status on the files instead of copying
them to different locations---does anyone know how I can do this?
Thanks.

Open the workbook and File>Save As>Tools>General Options.  Uncheck the "read
only recommended" and re-save.

"Password-protected" at which level?

Sheet-protection?

Tools>Protection>Protect Sheet.

Note:  Excel's internal security on sheets and workbooks is very weak, but will
keep the un-sophisticated user from cracking your password.
