changing August 31, 2007 into 31.08.2007

I'm struggling with changing the date in cell like August 31, 2007
into 31.08.2007, and the range Aug 1, 2007 - Aug 31, 2007 into a
european format date.
I haven't found any good solution yet, so  please give me a hand in
stugglin...

Format > Cells... > Custom > dd.mm.yyyy

Data > Text To Columns > Delimited: Next > Next > Date: MDY
Then set number format to dd.mm.yyyy

I got Excel 2003 and it doesn't work at mine. :(
