You have to protect the workbook and protect its structure. You don't state
what version of Excel you are using.

I think in earlier versions of Excel, protection is under
Tools/Protection/Protect Workbook.

Thanks for your reply. I am using Excel 2007. I will try your suggestion and
see if it works.

If using Excel 2002 or 2003 you can set options when protecting.
You may have checked "format columns" when protecting.
