Hello,

is there a way to divide a cell into half so text or color coding can be
applied to the same cell but not have the colors or text overlap?

You can manually select text parts to format different colors.

Background color......no.

Your right Gord for individual cells ( or merged cells), but there is
a work around.

If your use more then one Excel column for each column of information,
then you can format the text to 'center across selection' and color
each cell in that selection differently with the text going through
the various colored backgrounds.
