shortcut key for selecting the inactive cells surrounding a range

I thought I used a shortcut for selecting all the outside cells surrounding
an active area of a worksheet, but I can't remember it and I'm not finding it
in any of the shortcut key lists.

could it be selecting the activecell's current region ?
{ctrl}{asterisk}
{ctrl}{shift}{asterisk}
