Tools>Protection>Allow Users to Edit Ranges.
Each range which can be a single cell can have its own password.

Hi Gordon,
Jumping in...
I have XL2000 - don't seem to have the 'Allow Users to Edit Ranges' in my
protection options. Am I missing something, or is that a feature of later
versions?
Regards - Dave.

I skipped XL2000 when I went from 97 to 2002 so can't speak to that question but
probably came in with 2002 version along with some other new features for
protecting worksheets.
Keep eye on this, someone will drop in with an answer.
