auto saving & closing file

I would like to know if in excel ver. 2003 sp2 can I set a macro or any other
way to automatically after a given time of inactivity in the file save the
work completed and shut down and close a file so some one else can work with
it?

You could Share the workbook with the option to save every x minutes.
That way more than one can have it open and use it.
