on conditional format change to "the formula is" and use a formula
=if(a1>10)
format as your needs

Apparently my typing skills are lacking a bit. it should have said text which
is "flat"
I actually have 6 different text choices for a column, and based on which
text is used, other various cells need to turn yellow indicating these need
filled in by the user. That is what I am trying to accomplish.
