I am attempting to use a drop down list which is located in a separate
workbook. I've gone through the directions several times by using the help
menu "Create a drop-down list from a range of cells" When I get to the last
step which is entering the source, I get a pop up message which says "You may
not use references to other worksheets or workbooks for Data Validation
criteria" This is confusing because it specifically shows how to use separate
notebooks. Help anyone!

Thanks for responding to my request

You would have to use a defined name for the source *and* the source
workbook *must* be open for it to work. What this boils down to is it may
not be worth the trouble and you'd be better off just putting the source in
the workbook where it's needed.
