I have an Excel workbook that has links to a workbook in
another folder. I have placed a hyperlink to my Excel file
in a word document. If i click this hyperlink however i
always get File Not Found and have to locate it each time.
I have checked the link, updated the source and saved the
file but the error still happens. If i open the Excel from
explorer i don't get the error. It only happens when i
open it using the Word hyperlink...

Any ideas?

In a quick test I was unable to reproduce this.

Perhaps some more information would help:
- which version of Excel and Word?
- what directory is the Word file in?
- what directory is the Excel file referenced by the hyperlink in?
- what directory is the Excel file referenced by the Excel link in?
- what is the File / Properties / Summary / Hyperlink Base setting in
the Word file?

I am experience the same problem except mine is between excel files.  It
appears the problem is in the directory structure of our network.  If I hyper
link to a file in the same or lower (in the tree) directory or even a link in
the directory to a sub-directory, they work fine.  But if I link to a
directory closer to the root it will work fine until the file is calced or
saved.  In the address the beginning of the address is relaced with".."

Try File / Properties / Hyperlink Base  and set a ficticious server
address such as \\Junk\Directory.  I think that will force hyperlinks
to be absolute.  Of course if you then move the files this will be bad
news....
