I do not have excel loaded onto my computer. All I want
to be able to do is read xls. files from email sent to me
or xls. files from the internet. What do I need to do to
just read these simple files?  Can I just download some
excel program, like adobe reader for pdf. files?

You can download OpenOffice for free from www.openoffice.org, and it'll open
Excel files.

Hi Dave!

You can open the file for just viewing file the Excel Viewer that is
downloadable from:

http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/xlviewer.aspx

It's a fair size download (3.8 MB)

Or you can get OpenOffice that will allow you to work on the file:

http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.1/index.html

That's a 63.5 MB download.
