When I am doing a Cash Flow from time to time the result in the final (Final
Balance) column is a negative one, e.g. -?500.00 To make it more noticeable
I change the colour from black to read for that one cell.

Is there a way of programming the Excel process, so that the negative
balances are always automatically shown in read? If there is could that
process be applied to other worksheets, where negative balances appear from
time to time e.g. Use of Energy? There is nothing I can see in the Index in
my book on Excel 2003.

If there is a way of programming please give me the instructions in a
detailed, step by step way. Thank you.

Hi

if you right mouse click on the cell with the negative number in it and
choose format cells, then under the currency type (numbers tab) you'll see
some options for how you want negative numbers to look - choose the
appropriate option.

alternatively, and this is if you want to use different colours or want bold
to be applied when it is a large negative number etc - and that is to use
conditional formatting
click on the cell containing the number you want to format
choose format / conditional formatting
choose cell value is less than & type 0
click on the format button ... choose a format - click OK

you can add two other conditions if required by clicking on the ADD button -
when you've finished click the OK button again.

Hope this helps
Cheers

hi,
the suggest given you are good. i might add to them that
instead of a single cell, i would format the entire column
with the same number formate or the entire column with the
coditional format.
to do that click the column letter to select the entire
column, then format or conditional format.
:)
