I am taking an on-line training in Microsoft Office.  One of the practice
sessions is Working with a data file and fields.  The program I am working in
is Excel.  I need to know how (very simply put) to cut an existing surname in
a column and paste it into the next column.  I can't seem to highlight it and
can't get there by editing it.  Please help.

Try Data>Text to Columns with space-delimited.

You can also cut it from the string in the Formula Bar when in Edit mode.

Hang in, there will be others with more methods.
