Can you give me an example of how to input value to get a specific result for
the goal seek function;i.e, what values do we input in the boxes to get the
result we want?

Say you have the following:

A1:     100
A2:     11
A3:     =SQRT(A1) + A2

and you want the value in A1 to result in A3 = 20. Select A3 and choose
Tools/Goal Seek. Enter A3 in the "Set cell:" box, 20 in the "To value:"
box and A1 in the "By changing cell:" box. Click OK.

trivial example

H11    cost    98
H12    sale    127.4
H13    profit fraction    0.3 this is formula =(H12-H11)/H11
in the goal seek window
set cell---$H$13
to value   .2
by hnging cell ---$H$12
click ok twice
you get the sale value for a profit of .2 i.e. 20%

you need not type the cell addres but highlught the cell it is enough
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
