Most likely your worksheet is protected.  Click on Tools|Protection and then
on Unprotect Sheet

Tools - Protection - Protect Sheet is also grayed out.
There is no Unprotect option.

Joe

Do you have more than one sheet selected?

Do you see [Group] in the title bar?

If so, right-click on a tab and "ungroup" or just select any sheet tab.

Is the worksheet protected? You normally can't sort protected
worksheets.

I'm sure your worksheet is shared then.  If you click on Tools|Protection, do
you have as a last option Protect Shared Workbook, which is not grayed out?
If so, the workbook is shared.
