I'm switching computers. Where do I put my old XLB file?

You can put it in your XLStart folder, typically C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Office\XLStart .

Thanks Chip. It's amazing how much I forget when I don't have to think
about it!

Mine isn't there, not that one place is particularly better than another, but if Excel already
has it some other place, I doubt Excel is going to change it that easily. It would be better
to have it in a directory that distinguishes which Excel your are using so that it would be
preferable to have it in the Start directory of the Excel your are running..

In any case the first thing you want to do is to eliminate the settings that
Hide files. Then do a search on *.xlb files and it should be the one that
was last changed, specifically each time you close Excel.

Hidden Files: You probably won’t get far with these directions unless you unhide hidden files. .
XLB is a hidden file for instance. (topic hidden files)
My Computer, Tools(or View), Folder Options, View and make sure “show all files” is checked.

and your .XLB file is a file you definitely want to back up as it is personal data/settings..

Would like to know what version you have and if Chip's suggestion worked, and if you had
another .xlb file lying around that you found in your search. (one for Excel that is)

It is not a good idea to transfer an .XLB file between computers if they are not using\
the same version of Excel. I just looked at my search results, I have more material
in my toolbars than before, but by rebuilding it I reduced from 419KB to 57 KB actually
the 419KB was for Excel 2000 and the 57KB is for Excel 2003, and my Excel 2000 was
no longer working. .

Actually mine were created in the same directory as XLSTART not within,
but doing a search is the most reliable way of finding it..

Or just asking excel for help...

Open excel
Hit alt-f11 to get to the VBE
hit ctrl-g to see the immediate window
type this and hit enter:
?application.startuppath

Sometimes when the folder/file is hidden, it becomes a problem when people
search for it.
