during training exercise i cannot click on freeze panes it is not highlighted

What training exercise? When I exercise, I feel like my joints freeze up but
that's probably not what you mean.

I will guess that the workbook is protected.

Tools>Protection>UnProtect workbook.

You may have to supply a passwrd.
