I need to sort a rather large data base. Coulmns are State, Customer,
Product, Product Size etc. The entries currently are in order of invoice.
I need to start by sorting by state, keeping all information together
(State, customer ,product, product size etc.) just as it appeared in
origional data base but now sorted by State vs Invoice.
Thanks in advance
Try this:
Select the entire range of data, including the column headings (State,
Customer, etc)
From the Excel main menu: <Data><Sort>
First "Sort By" dropdown should list the column headings
(If it doesn't, Check: My list has: Header Row)
Select: State from the list
Check: Ascending (or descending)
Click the [OK] button
The list will sort by state and all corresponding data for each row will
move accordingly.
Does that help?

1) FWIW I have excell 2007
2) I highlight all cells, go to sort, custom sort, sort by state column =
states sort alphabetically, nothing else sorts.
I am doing something wrong.

Clicked on cell, went to Insert, table, xpanded so all data I want to sort
was included.
Went to state-sort A-Z, 1st 3 colunms sorted correctly
(state,customer,address).
Product and $ volume columns did not move with the state/customer.
I am still not doing something correctly.
Thanks for your help and patience.

Hi
Do you have an empty column between Address and Product?
If all 5 columns are contiguous, then Insert>Table will include them all
in the table range, and they will be sorted together.
