I got teh same problem. I have a HP 540 C  printer.
I can't print anything from Word or Excel, neither from the Notepad.
No problem anyhow when printing an email from Hotmail, a PDF file from
Acrobat Reader.
What am I doing wrong,

We have XP Pro and Office 2003 Basic. We also find that we
can print to some of our networked printers but not
others. The symptoms are the same as you described. No
Error message, no data light on the printer (HP LJ2200)
but nothing will print. When we redirect the printer
driver to print to file we still get nothing as it does
not ask for the output file name. Printing from all other
applications is fine. We do find however if we ask it to
print to a different networked HP LJ2200 printer then it
will print fine.

I thought at first it mght be a problem with the type of
network interface for the printer but as print to file
wont work either I am now not sure.

Have you had any feedback at all?

I am having the same problem with a few users. All
running Win XP and Office 2003. It is an intermittent
problem and includes more than one printer.

I have searched Microsoft Support, but it doesnt seem
like they recognise it as a problem. Please let me know
if anyone has got the answer.

I have been working on this problem and think i have
finally found a solution. i went on the Microsoft Office
2003 home page and downloaded 2 updates (one critical).
the updates were:
Office2003-kb828041-client-enu &
office2003-kb834691-client-enu

this has sorted the problem and the user can now print to
the specific printer again. Try it out and let me know if
it works.
