I am preparing an invoice template to print onto pre-
printed stationery. For the date field for example I need
to put the field description "Date:" so I know where to
type in the date but I don't want it to print as it is
already on the pre printed stationery. Can anyone help

The only obvious thing I can think of would be to draw a text box over the
cell where you want "Date:" to appear on screen, and type it in the box. It
might look very slightly unusual on screen (depending on how much you can be
bothered to set up borders, transparency etc) but you can set a text box's
properties to "do not print object" or something like that, which should
solve your problem quite easily.

Thanks for the reply Paul. I can't find anywhere to set
the text box properties to "do not print object" which
will solve my problem. Can you give any guidelines.

You need to make sure you right click on the border of the object, and not
inside. If you right-click inside and then choose Format Text Box, you will
only be able to change the font. If you right-click on the border, you will
have several tabs under Format Text Box, one of which is Properties. In
here, just untick the "Print Object" option.

Hi Paul
Still having problems. I have created a text box and put a
border around but when I right click on the border it does
not seem to open a properties box. Could I be really
cheeky and ask could you email me an example. I will be
forever in your debt.

You don't actually have to put a visible border around it (you can even
switch the border off).
Right-click won't open a properties box - it will bring up a context menu
where you choose
"Format Text Box..." which then has a Properties tab.
Alternatively, select the box (but, again, not the text inside) and go to
Format --> Text Box (shortcut Ctrl-1)

Have emailed an example to the address provided. Not sure how it will help,
but it should prove that I'm not making it up!

What version of Excel do you have? I would have thought this feature was
long standing, but maybe not?
