i've got borders in the sheet and am requesting gridlines be printed but they're not.  they're not showing up in print preview so it's not my printer.

can anyone help?

Excel uses the printer driver for your printer to render what you see in
print preview, so this sounds like a problem with your printer driver. I'd
suggest visiting the web site of the manufacturer of your printer,
downloading the latest version of the printer driver for it and installing
it on your machine.

Rob, as I noted, the borders are showing in the document but are NOT showing in print preview and are not being printed.  Just in case, I installed a driver, even though my printer is just a few months old.  Not surprisingly, the borders are still not printing and they are still NOT showing up in print preview.

Any other suggestions?  I have no idea what's going on!

Hi Jac,

The fact that your printer is new makes me suspicious that the driver is
buggy. Check their web site and see if they have a new version available.
What you see in Excel's print preview was drawn using the functions in your
printer driver. If there's a problem in print preview the driver is usually
the culprit.

If you're in a situation where you have access to another printer, try
printing to that and see what you get. If you print OK on another printer
then there's no question it's a problem with the new printer.

If your cells are filled with white fill color, then your gridlines won't
print out.

Highlight the cells, or the entire worksheet and go tot he Format menu.
Choose Cells, and look at the Patterns tab.  Make sure "No Color" is
selected (click on it to make sure).

If you must fill with white, then I suggest you go into the Borders tab and
choose "outline" and "inside" and the corresponding style/thickness of the
borders you want to see.
