Printing entire workbook as 1 document

I have Excel 97 and I'm trying to fax my workbook to an automated system for
processing.  The workbook has 3 sheets.  When I print to fax, it sends each
sheet as a separate fax.  I want the entire thing to go as 1 fax.  I've
tried cutting and pasting the sheets together and it won't let me do that.

Any ideas?

May I suggest you use http://groups.google.com to search this group for your
problem, but replace "fax" with "pdf"? A lot of users have problems printing
to a single PDF file for the same reasons your fax won't work, and there are
solutions but their suitability depends on how strict your presentation
requirements are.

I didn't see anything that jumped out.  One thing that does seem to work is
printing to file.  It seems to print all three sheets to the same file.  Any
idea on the format of the output in this case?  If I can fax this file (as
one fax) then I'll be all set.

Hi Jeff,

I'm having similar problems. I want to fax three separate documents as one
fax but I can't for some reason. Microsoft Fax in Outlook 98 and 2000 was
great with this. Curious what the Microsoft guys are going to tell us to do
about this.

Well, I can tell you what I'm doing now.  We have a fax -> email gateway
that converts everything to a .tif.  I'm sending my faxes there, then using
the editing tools in W2K to merge the tifs together.  Then faxing the entire
thing to the recipient.  Is a pain, but seems to be working.

I can't remember what you call the output, but the file created is
essentially gibberish and intended to be 'copied' to a printer at a later
date. If you originally chose to print to a normal printer and had selected
"print to file" of say, C:\test.prt, then you would open a command prompt
and type

copy c:\test.prt LPT1:

assuming the printer is connected to LPT1. The printer driver selected when
you print to file has to match the printer that it will eventually be output
to. So you might "print to file" with FAX1 set as your chosen printer, and
then in a command prompt do "copy xxxx FAX1:" to print it.

Even if it generates a single output file, I suspect that copying it to the
printer/fax port will still create three separate jobs, unfortunately. Do
let us know if it works, though, because it's a common problem.

I found a fix to this problem, that works in Office 2000 anyway...

Each worksheet is created from a single worksheet.
Right click on the target worksheet, Move or Copy, check "Make
Copy".

DON'T Insert->Worksheet.
DON'T populate more than a single worksheet that is to be printed fro
the auto-generated ones.

Then format away.  The result for me was a five page, single pdf, thre
pages portrait, and two pages landscape (with graphics).  Befor
applying this trick, I had three individual pages (each as their ow
pdf) and a pair of pages that had been copied one from the other (whic
was the clue)

Yes, it is a pain in the tush to copy the contents and the colum
widths from existing speradsheets, but it does pay off..

Trying this, but the machine doesn't recognize FAX1.  Only seeing LPT1
(local printer).
