In all Office applications on one particular machine, can select an
individual network printer and print fine. However, when trying to print
subsequently, the printer reverts back (does not store last printer used).
How to configure to use most recent printer so that end user does not have to
keep manually selecting the desired printer?

Try this:

1.  Access the control panel and choose the printers object
2.  Find the printer you wish to set as the default printer and double-click
on the icon.  You'll see a window come up with the printer's status.
3.  On the printer menu, check the "set as default" option and okay it.

This is with Windows 98 SE and I don't know if it's the same with XP.

Depending on the OS you're running, find your list of Printers (i.e.,
Start, Settings, Printers or through Control Panel, etc.).

When you find the default printer you always want, right click on that
printer and Check "Set as default".
