Is there a way to change or customise the contents of the header and footer
dropdown menus (accessed from page setup-header footer tab) that Excel
generates from computer info? While the standard ones are useful, ones that
satisfy my 'standard' needs would be even more so.

Does anyone know how to do this? I figure the data must be stored by Excel
in registry or documents_and_settings, and therefore should be editable.

TIA for any bright ideas or solutions.

Hit the custom header or custom footer button and build your own. They
should then appear in the dropdown.

Thanks, tom. It looks like that does what I need, but can I clean out the
previous auto generated stuff, most of which I'l never use, and some of which
I don't want at all (e.g. company name changed since installation, so wrong
name comes up)?

Ches,

Did you ever get an answer to this question? I would like to do the same
thing for basically the same reasons you discribe.

Thanks,

Dan Bass

Involves changing registry values.

A hint if you're going to try this.

In step 3 I found no key value to change at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{91110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}

But did find at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\9040111900063D11C8EF10054038389C\InstallProperties

And if you're running another version of Office

How to change the company name and user name in:
Office 2003: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=821550
Office XP:   http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290528
Office 2000: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=233499

Folks,

Thanks for the registry info. Will this allow me to remove the regular items
in the Custom Header drop down list (File names, company name, etc.) so that
they no longer show up in the drop down at all?

Thanks,

Dan Bass

Dan

There are two dialogs for headers/footers.

1.  Excel's defaults seen when you drop-down "Header" or "Footer".
These are what you are referring to.  They are not "Custom"
You cannot get rid of the Excel defaults in the list.
You wanted Company Name changed.  That can be done via the Registry route.

2.  Custom headers/footers which you create yourself.
You can delete these.  Just click on "Custom" and delete what you don't
like.
