I've copied a document from my own computer at work to a colleague's via a
floppy disk (brand new one), but when we go to print it out Excel just won't
do it.  We're looked on the Microsoft homepage at troubleshooting tips which
were of no help, we've looked at the Help and Support tab in XP which was
also of no help.  Even the young lad who does our computer maintenance can't
figure out what's wrong.

Excel will print any other document bar this one.  What's wrong?  I think I
use an older version of Office but I wouldn't have thought this would make a
difference...

Help us!!!

Hi Carrie,
Exactly what do you mean by won't print.
Blank sheets of paper,  doesn't fit on paper,   margins, colors.
What does it do instead of work.

Sorry, my apologies for not being more specific.

I mean, I click print, it sends it to the print queue, and then it
disappears.  It vanishes out of the print queue and the printer never makes a
sound.  No paper - blank or printed - comes out...  Just nothing.  Like I
hadn't even clicked print.  It's baffled me!!

are you directly connected to your own personal printer, or is it on a network.

Use   file, print,  and look at the printer chosen

The computer we're trying to print from is independent of the Network (my
computer is hooked up to the network but uses it's own printer).  It has it's
own printer and when I go to the Print Properties it shows the correct laser
printer.  I've also tried clicking "find printer" but it comes up with the
error message "The Directory Service is currently unavailable" (which it does
on my computer too, not just my colleague's).

I'll be your friend forever if you can help us out, it's driving us potty!

darn,   I always like the message   check with your network administrator
which I think if fair turnaround  after years of contact your systems programmer.

You should get error indications but check anyway
-  check if printer works from other applications
-  check power light on printer turned on
-  check interface cable securely attached at both ends (all pins in contact
at the printer -- not part way out on one side) -- switch printer cables
-  check that there is paper in printer,  ink or toner
-  press self test button on printer, if there is one

I've checked all those particular things, the printer works fine with any
other document from any other application, as indeed any other file I print
from Excel.  Just this one particular document will not print at all.

A general "health check" of the printer turned up nothing obvious - cable
securely plugged in, plenty of toner and paper, self test works fine...
