Ready Calculate

I am new to EXCEL 2007 and, at the bottom left of my spreadsheet, it says
Ready, then Calculate.  In EXCEL 2003, this would suggest that the
spreadsheet is on manual recalc (or calc except data tables, maybe).  But
this spreadsheet is on automatic, and I have hit F9 a few times.

FWIW, it was an 2003 spreadsheet, and may have been in manual calc mode when
I brought it in, and it says now the file has been saved in "compatibility
mode".  Even when I exit EXCEL and reopen the file, it's still there with
the "Calculate".

Can anyone explain?

Thanks much!

This same file has no such problems when I open it in EXCEL 2003.

In EXCEL 2007, I found a hidden sheet and, if I delete certain combinations
of columns (edit clear all does nothing), the problem goes away but there is
aboslutely nothing there to cause it.  Could this be a bug?

If this is not the right place to post on this, can someone recommend a
better place?

Thanks!
Dean
