On our network a new pc (pc x) was installed.  Now pc x opens all MS .xls
files as [read only], even files created and originally saved while working
on pc x.  In:  File, Properties, General [read only] is not checked.  Does
anyone know how to fix this problem?

If you copied files to a CD-R  using Microsoft Windows utilities you probably
turned on the  Read only flag on the files on the CD.   The Command form (DOS command)
XCOPY will not do that.     To fix the problem select your c:  drive and
change properties by turning on   Read only, then turning it off,  it should
affect all subdirectories if you tell it to.
