Does anyone know how I can add "Favorites" to the left side of the file open
dialog box? I have "My Recent Documents", "My Computer", "My Network Places",
etc. but it would be helpful if I could add "Favorites" to this list.

Depends on the version of excel.

In xl2002+, you can do file|open and then go to the parent folder of the folder
you want.  Then click on the Tools button (top right corner) and click "Add to
Places".

If you're using xl2k, MS has a COM addin that's called Places.exe
that allows you to update the places list.
