After cell information had been entered, I used to have a space at the top
(typing bar) where I could go and make changes.  One day it disappeared -
perhaps someone else using my computer did it.  BUT I REALLY NEED IT.  Please
tell me how to get it back.  Thanks.

It is called the "Formula Bar" and can be turned on/off by going to View>Formula
Bar.

Check it to make it visible.

Goto
View and expand the selections
Click Formula Bar
Your space should return
