My add/remove programs says that Excel 2003 is installed on my computer but I
cannot find an icon to start the program. What can be the problem?

Search for excel.exe and create a shortcut to that, by right clicking and
selecting create shortcut. You should be able to restore them permanently by
running detect and repair under the help menu in Excel and selecting restore
shortcuts (You will likely require the CD for this)

Start - Programs - Microsoft Office -- Excel.  If you want an icon on your
desktop, hold your CTR key down and click and drag the icon from the small
menu to the desktop
