At our workplace,we use open office document instead of MS office.I have
copied certain files in the pen drive and wanted to open the same in my
laptop which supports MS office and not open office document. (Also, while
copying those files i have changed the file name extension from .odt to .xls)

Use OpenOffice to save the .odt files as .xls files, and then open the
.xls files in Excel.  Or install OpenOffice on your laptop.
