Excel 2002 - after installing latest security update I get
the message "unable to read file" upon opening excel, or
upon trying to open a file once in excel, or upon trying
to run excel from a file launch.
The same thing happened to my WORD 2002. Files assumed OK
because I can open them fine in earlier version of Excel.
Any hints?

Start>Run "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes and note the space before the /
mark).

Then re-register by  Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver

You may have to enter your full path to excel.exe....in that case surround
with quotes as in.....  "C:\mypath\to Excel\somewhere\excel.exe" /unregserver

For Word the re-register command is slightly different

Start>Run "winword.exe /r" (no quotes and note the space before the /
mark).  Again, you may have to enter the full path to winword.exe
