I am using Excel 2002. If I open an Excel 97 spreadsheet, I get the
error below :

Renamed invalid sheet name

The new sheet name is then "Recovered_Sheet1

The screen says that the sheet was repaired.

If I open the same exact spreadsheet in Excel 97. No problem.

How does one go about fixing the problem?

Try saving the file in xl2002 (after the correction).
