I am using comments exclusively as notes for individual cells in Excel 2000:
1) I need to anchor each comment to its cell so it is in the same location
relative to the cell when I reedit it later. Currently, when I add or delete
rows or columns, the comments for cells below and to the right of the
addition/deletion are shifted away from the cell in edit mode (extremely
annoying). I changed the Format Comment Properties to "Move but don't size
with cells", this reduced the movement but didn't eliminate it, so comments
still show up miles away from the cell in edit mode.
2) I need to size a comment box to fit a multiline comment and have it stay
the same size that I choose. Currently adding or deleting rows changes the
size of the box and can shrink it down to nothing.

I don't know of a reliable way to prevent the comments from moving or
changing size. However, you could run the code shown here, to resize the
comments when required:

Debra,
Thanks for the comment repositioning and resizing macros. I'll incorporate
them into my worksheet. I have a lot of comments, and several rows and
columns that are hidden. I'll have to experiment with how effective the
macros will be for my circumstances.
First, I'll have to learn about macros. Dave McRitchie's tutorial at
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/getstarted.htm sounds like a good
starting point. Thanks again.

Thanks for the response. It provides a corrective action similar to Debra
D's which I will implement.
It's nice to know that I am not the only one suffering from comment problems.
It would be nice if MS just anchored the comments and kept the size fixed.

Thanks for responses to this and second posting. First posting failed with a
message to reenter, ergo the second, more expanded posting (with three parts
rather than two). Please respond only to the other three part posting. I
will transfer all to it. Thank you.

I am closing this dialogue and leaving the answers to #1 and #2 here. The
answer to #3 is found in the second posting. Thanks for all of the help.
